The earliest Goose Games were actually untitled and date back to the Italian Renaissance.
They were about human vicissitudes, with the goose being a symbol of good fortune.

In the 19th century the game becomes more narrative. It's often themed around farm life, or about traveling around the world with a pet goose. That's when the goose starts to become mischievous.

Only in the 20th century, especially in Germany and France, you start to see variations centered on the goose experience.
The image of the roasted goose signifies death and not success. Geese rebelling, escaping, and taking over the human world become more common.
